Our view on biodynamics

Our philosophy in the vineyard is simple “work with the energies that create and maintain life” i.e. ”the healthier the soil and the environment are, the higher the quality in the wines”. Therefore, the soil is treated as a living organism where balance should be found by using natural mineral and animal derived preparations, following the rythms of the earth and the cosmos; the grapes grow in an environment deprived from any pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, less prone to disease, to fully reflect the terroir (soil and climate).

The work in the vineyard, i.e. pruning, adding the bio-dynamic preparations, de-budding, and harvesting take place according to the phases of the moon and cosmological cycles (according to the timings set out in the moon calendar) in order to preserve the soil life balance. Homeopathic preparations made with minute amounts of oak-bark, dandelion, chamomile, stinging nettle and valerian are sprayed on the foliage of the vines and, in the spring, specially prepared compost teas are applied. The ripeness is judged by aromatic maturity. Grapes are definitely handpicked and are processed through a gravity principle.

Finally, two young Haflinger horses have been acquired to start to work the soil instead of the tractor in full respect of the soil.
